Democrat Zach Dembo Flips Kentucky's Sixth Congressional District
Zach Dembo defeated Republican Ralph Alvarado by nearly 10 percentage points to flip Kentucky's Sixth Congressional District in the Tuesday election.
Democrat Zach Dembo flipped Kentucky's Sixth Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Republican Ralph Alvarado by nearly 10 percentage points. Dembo achieved a 24.4 point swing compared to 2024 results, securing victories in Fayette and Woodford counties while narrowing Republican margins in Madison and Scott counties.
Dembo's campaign spent roughly half of the race's $20 million ad budget. Democratic officials and strategists attribute the win to competitive fundraising and a broader trend of Republican voter disaffection. Morgan Eaves of the Kentucky Democratic Party noted that economic pressures, including inflation and the impact of tariffs on small businesses, resonated with voters in areas with limited economic opportunity.
Republican turnout was suppressed by several factors, including the declining popularity of Donald Trump and the arrest of former Governor Matt Bevin, a former running mate of Alvarado. Republican strategist Tres Watson suggested that some MAGA voters abstained because Trump was not on the ballot, while moderate centrists remained angry with the former president. Jared Smith described the environment for Republicans as toxic, leading many to stay home in silent protest.
