APC Inaugurates Campaign Council for Osun Governorship Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated a 276-member National Campaign Council on July 28, 2026, in Abuja to reclaim Osun State in the August 15 governorship election. The council, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and supported by co-chairmen including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, will oversee finance, security, and media sub-committees to support candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described the contest as a "must-win" and a "litmus test" for the party's preparedness for the 2027 general elections. Yilwatda characterized the APC's strength as a "trailer facing a keke," suggesting the party's resources would overwhelm the opposition, specifically Governor Ademola Adeleke's Accord Party. The campaign strategy involves deploying governors from across Nigeria to manage senatorial districts and grassroots mobilization, focusing on President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda."

Candidate Oyebamiji asserted that Osun residents are eager to return to "progressive governance" and responsible leadership. In response, Governor Ademola Adeleke's Imole Campaign Council dismissed the APC's mobilization of external political heavyweights as a sign of desperation and arrogance. The council argued that voters will decide the outcome based on Governor Adeleke's performance in healthcare, education, and infrastructure rather than the influence of outside politicians, while labeling Oyebamiji as "weak and unpopular."
