Waymo and Zoox Expand Robotaxi Services Across U.S. Cities
Waymo and Zoox are expanding autonomous ride-hailing operations in several U.S. cities as Tesla prepares to unveil its Cybercab and Robotaxi service.
Waymo launched paid driverless rides in Denver, San Diego, and Tampa on September 1, 2026. This expansion brings the Alphabet subsidiary's total operations to 14 cities with a fleet exceeding 4,000 vehicles.
Zoox, backed by Amazon, is beginning supervised testing in Houston and San Diego this month. These new test sites add to the company's existing autonomous services in Las Vegas and San Francisco.
Tesla is preparing to reveal specific details regarding its Cybercab and Robotaxi service at an event this Thursday. The simultaneous moves by Alphabet, Amazon, and Tesla signal intensifying competition to dominate urban mobility.
These expansions target a rapidly growing sector. Goldman Sachs Research projects the U.S. robotaxi market will reach 19 billion dollars by 2030.
