Huawei Launches Grid-Interactive AIDC Solution in Shanghai

Huawei unveiled a grid-interactive AIDC solution to optimize AI data center energy efficiency and integrate compute infrastructure with power grids.

During the HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 event in Shanghai, Huawei introduced a grid-interactive Artificial Intelligence Data Center (AIDC) solution designed to maximize tokens per watt and reduce costs per token. The system integrates compute and energy infrastructure to transform AI data centers from rigid power loads into active components of the electrical grid, helping to manage power fluctuations and renewable energy integration.

The technical architecture includes a MIMO power supply, grid-friendly UPS, intelligent lithium batteries, and grid-forming energy storage systems. To ensure operational stability, the solution employs an AI-powered liquid cooling system for predictive maintenance. Hou Jinlong, Director of the Board of Huawei and President of Huawei Digital Power, detailed these architectural innovations, while Vice President Bob Hearts Abishola explained the coordination between energy and compute infrastructure.

Industry partners including VNET Group and SenseTime joined the discussion on the shift toward active microgrids. SenseTime's SenseCore business group is transitioning its efficiency management from Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to tokens per watt as the primary metric for AI production. Additionally, 21Vianet Chairman Josh Chen proposed redefining power sources and buildings to support the requirements of GW-level AIDC.
