Bangladesh Deploys Border Guards to Quell Garment Worker Protests
Border Guard Bangladesh deployed 12 platoons to Gazipur and Narayanganj to maintain order following violent garment worker protests over wage demands.
The Border Guard Bangladesh deployed 12 platoons of personnel to Gazipur and Narayanganj to maintain order amid ongoing labor unrest. Ten platoons are stationed in the Sofipur, Kaliakair, and Konabari areas of Gazipur, while two are positioned in the Chasara area of Narayanganj. To monitor the situation, the force is utilizing drones and body-worn cameras that stream live footage to a Central Monitoring Cell at BGB Headquarters.
The deployment follows four days of protests by garment workers demanding higher wages. On Tuesday, the situation escalated in the Mirpur area of Dhaka, where workers clashed with police. Security forces used tear gas and baton charges to disperse the crowds.
While some factories in Mirpur have partially resumed operations, tensions remain high. Police continue to patrol affected industrial zones to prevent further violence.
