The Government of Ghana is converting the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute into a full space agency to expand its role in the global space economy.
The Government of Ghana is transforming the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute into a fully-fledged Ghana Space Agency. Minister of Environment, Science and Technology Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings announced the transition in Accra as part of her First 100 Days Public Engagement Agenda, following approval from the Cabinet.
The new agency is designed to strengthen Ghana's participation in the global space economy by establishing a legal and institutional framework to coordinate national space programs. Its primary objectives include promoting research and facilitating public-private partnerships to advance the nation's capabilities.
Government officials are currently drafting a Bill to formally establish the agency. Once enacted, the organization will oversee the development of space infrastructure and the creation of related technologies to support national interests.
