Anthropic Reports $80.7 Billion Loss Ahead of November IPO

Anthropic recorded a $80.7 billion net loss in early 2026 due to accounting charges and infrastructure spending despite a 45% rise in quarterly revenue.

AI startup Anthropic recorded a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first six months of 2026, a sharp increase from the $13 billion loss reported during the same period in 2025. The deficit was primarily driven by a $72 billion accounting charge linked to the increased estimated value of convertible bonds, as well as nearly $9 billion spent on computing capacity and infrastructure.

These financial disclosures occur as the company prepares for an initial public offering planned for November. The losses have led some investors to consider a lower valuation for the company, estimated at approximately $1.5 trillion.

Despite the net loss, the company reported that third-quarter revenue rose 45% from the previous quarter to $16.8 billion. To maintain its position in the AI market, Anthropic has committed to spending at least $518 billion on cloud services and infrastructure over the next decade.
