Democrats Rally in Chicago After Regaining Congressional Control

Democratic supporters gathered at Federal Plaza and marched through downtown Chicago on Saturday for The People Have Spoken Rally and March. The event celebrated the midterm election results from the previous Tuesday, in which Democrats regained control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

In Illinois, Governor JB Pritzker won re-election to a third term, and Juliana Stratton was elected to the U.S. Senate. Stratton's victory made Illinois the first state represented by two women of color in the Senate simultaneously.

During the rally, Daniel Biss, the U.S. Representative-elect for Illinois's 9th Congressional District, urged supporters to maintain pressure on elected officials to ensure accountability and productive change. Organizers from the Indivisible Chicago Alliance stated the event focused on future actions regarding affordability, immigration policy, and the U.S. conflict in Iran. Participants described the atmosphere as celebratory and optimistic.
