Roblox Mandates Facial Scans for Indonesian Users Under 16
Roblox is implementing facial age estimation and screen time limits for millions of Indonesian users to comply with new government regulations protecting minors.
The gaming platform Roblox announced on April 30, 2026, that it will require facial scans for users under 16 in Indonesia. This move ensures compliance with a March regulation from the Indonesian government that bans minors from high-risk digital platforms to mitigate risks including pornography, scams, and cyberbullying.
The company is transitioning 23 million underage accounts into two distinct categories. Users aged 5 to 12 will be placed in Roblox Kids accounts with no chat features, while those aged 13 to 15 will enter Roblox Select accounts, which limit chat to approved family and friends. Any user who does not undergo the facial age estimation process will be automatically assigned to a Roblox Kids account and lose all chat access.
To further address concerns regarding digital addiction, the platform has introduced screen time limits that allow parents to set specific hours for gameplay. These restrictions follow broader government enforcement actions, as the state has already issued summons to Google and Meta for failing to comply with the same digital safety regulations.
