Western Union launched Stablecard, a digital wallet and Visa-branded card allowing users to spend and hold US dollar-backed stablecoins across 37 global markets.
Western Union launched Stablecard, a digital wallet and Visa-branded card that enables users to hold, receive, transfer, and spend USDPT, a US dollar-backed stablecoin. The product is currently available in 37 markets, and the company plans to expand availability to more than 60 markets by the end of the year.
USDPT is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank National Association on the Solana blockchain and is designed to comply with the US GENIUS Act. The card integrates with payment networks such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, targeting consumers in volatile economies and remittance recipients seeking to maintain dollar-denominated savings.
The initiative is part of a wider industry trend where remittance firms adopt blockchain technology to compete against low-cost cross-border payment alternatives. The launch utilizes Visa's branding and acceptance network to facilitate global spending.
