Rhiya Ahir Blocks Police Van to Free Detained Protesters
Actor Rhiya Ahir blocked a police van in Mumbai for 40 minutes, forcing the release of Cockroach Janta Party demonstrators protesting examination irregularities.
Rhiya Ahir, a 27-year-old actor and entrepreneur, blocked a police van for 40 minutes in Dadar, Mumbai, on Wednesday to protest the detention of demonstrators. Ahir stepped in front of the vehicle during a rainstorm and refused to move until the police released the detainees, who were affiliated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The CJP movement is protesting alleged examination irregularities and police crackdowns on protesters in Delhi. The standoff in Dadar ended when the resulting traffic congestion forced the Greater Mumbai Police to release the prisoners. Ahir described her actions as a response to systemic failures and a personal test of courage.
Greater Mumbai Police reported that CJP protests occurred at multiple sites without permission, including Shivaji Park, Chembur, and Chaityabhoomi. These demonstrations resulted in 13 FIRs and the booking of over 400 people for unlawful assembly and violating prohibitory orders.
