Block Inc. to Issue $15 Million Cash App Settlement Payments

Block Inc. and Cash App will begin issuing payments in October 2026 to users affected by data security failures in a $15 million settlement.

Block Inc. and its subsidiary Cash App are scheduled to begin issuing payments in October 2026 as part of a $15 million class-action data security settlement. The payments resolve a lawsuit alleging the companies failed to protect customer information during security incidents in 2022 and 2023. Specifically, the breaches involved unauthorized access to customer data by a former employee in 2022 and issues with accounts linked to recycled phone numbers in 2023.

Eligible claimants include current and former users who experienced fraudulent transactions or unauthorized access to personal information between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024. Qualified individuals who filed claims by the November 18, 2024, deadline may receive up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses, such as bank fees and credit-related costs. Additionally, the settlement allows for compensation for up to three hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.

While Block Inc. and Cash App deny any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement, which received final court approval on March 27, 2025. The $15 million fund is designated to cover user claims, legal fees, and administrative costs.
