Suncor Energy Names Peter Zebedee as Successor to Rich Kruger

Suncor Energy announced Peter Zebedee will succeed Rich Kruger as CEO in April 2027 following the sudden departure of CFO Troy Little.

Suncor Energy Inc. announced a phased leadership transition, stating that Chief Executive Officer Rich Kruger will step down in April 2027. Peter Zebedee, currently the executive vice president of upstream, will succeed him. The transition begins on September 14, when Zebedee assumes the roles of president and chief financial officer to oversee all non-operating functions. Kruger will transition to executive vice chair of the board upon leaving the CEO position.

The announcement occurred alongside the unexpected departure of Chief Financial Officer Troy Little, a move that surprised market analysts. This transition follows an operational turnaround led by Kruger, who joined the company in 2023 after pressure from activist shareholder Elliott Investment Management.

Despite reporting second-quarter earnings that beat analyst estimates, Suncor shares fell as much as 4.1% in Toronto trading following the news. Elliott Investment Management expressed confidence that Zebedee is the right successor to ensure continuity and momentum.
