IBM Launches Self-Hosted Deployment for Bob AI Platform
IBM expanded its Bob agentic software development platform to include self-hosted options for on-premises, private-cloud, and air-gapped environments to meet strict data residency requirements.
International Business Machines Corp. announced a self-hosted deployment option for IBM Bob, its agentic software development platform, on October 1, 2026. The expansion allows organizations to run the technology across on-premises, private-cloud, sovereign-cloud, and air-gapped environments.
This move targets companies in heavily regulated sectors managing mission-critical infrastructure, sensitive source code, and regulated data. The update addresses a specific challenge cited by 68% of executives regarding data residency and sovereignty requirements across different geographies. IBM Bob was first introduced a year ago, with July updates adding multi-agent capabilities, parallel tool calling, and tools for modernizing COBOL and RPG applications.
Following the announcement, IBM shares rose 4.22 percent to $229.22 on the New York Stock Exchange. Neel Sundaresan, GM of AI and Automation at IBM, noted that the future of enterprise AI depends on security, governance, and sovereignty.
