Qatar Launches Doha Investment to Boost Domestic Growth

Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced Doha Investment, a new QIA division managing state-owned enterprises to expand Qatar's private sector.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, announced the creation of Doha Investment during the Qatar Economic Forum in New York. The new division of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) focuses exclusively on domestic investments to expand the role of the private sector in driving national economic growth.

Doha Investment will manage the QIA's local portfolio, which initially includes 45 state-owned enterprises. These assets represent approximately one-third of the sovereign wealth fund's total holdings. The Prime Minister stated that the initiative will support established companies and emerging businesses while deepening capital markets to attract international expertise.

Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Qatar's minister of commerce and industry, will serve as the division's managing director and vice-chairman. He described the launch as a consolidation of efforts that the government had been considering for over a decade.
