AMD Reaches $1 Trillion Market Capitalization Amid AI Growth
Advanced Micro Devices reached a $1 trillion market capitalization following a nearly 200% stock price increase driven by AI chip demand.
Advanced Micro Devices reached a $1 trillion market capitalization on October 4, 2026, after its stock price increased nearly 200% this year. The milestone makes the company the ninth-best-performing stock in the S&P 500, fueled largely by a 107% year-over-year increase in second-quarter data center revenue, which totaled $6.7 billion.
Despite this growth, Nvidia maintains a dominant lead in the AI chip market with a $5.5 trillion valuation. Nvidia's data center division grew 117% to $89 billion in the second quarter, outpacing the growth rate and scale of its competitor. AMD is attempting to close this gap by releasing new GPUs and enhancing programming software to compete with Nvidia's CUDA platform.
Market analysts suggest a valuation mismatch exists between the two firms. AMD currently trades at 158 times trailing earnings, while Nvidia trades at less than 30 times trailing earnings, leading some to conclude that AMD's stock is overvalued relative to its market leader.
