Nirmala Sitharaman Meets Mondelez COO to Expand India Footprint

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with Luca Zaramella, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Mondelez International, in Chicago on August 28, 2026. The meeting took place during Sitharaman's official nine-day visit to Canada and the United States.

Discussions centered on expanding the manufacturing, sourcing, services, and export footprint of Mondelez International within India. Sitharaman promoted India's skilled talent base and evolving supply-chain ecosystem, while detailing government initiatives to lower the cost of doing business through digitalization and regulatory simplification.

Although the two parties did not announce specific investment figures or new projects, the talks focused on further integrating India into the global production and supply-chain network of the snacking company.
