Marcos Jr. Authorizes Release of Sara Duterte Tax Records

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. authorized the Bureau of Internal Revenue to release the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte, her husband Manases Carpio, and linked companies to the Senate impeachment court on July 30, 2026. The documents were delivered in sealed red boxes to Senate Secretary Rey Bantug following a ruling by presiding officer Senator Francis Escudero that presidential approval was required under the National Internal Revenue Code.

These records, alongside bank statements from BDO Unibank, Metrobank, and LandBank, aim to support House prosecutors' claims that 6.77 billion pesos in suspicious transactions flowed through the couple's accounts between 2006 and 2025. This amount allegedly contradicts the Vice President's official Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth. Reports from the Anti-Money Laundering Council are also expected.

Vice President Duterte faces impeachment trial over allegations of amassing unexplained wealth and the misappropriation of approximately P612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education. Additional charges include bribery, corruption, and threats against the president. While Duterte's defense team challenged the subpoenas as illegal violations of due process, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro stated the president's decision was based on a duty to uphold transparency and the law. The Senate is scheduled to resume the trial on August 3.
