Sudanese Army Secures Key Road Amid RSF Defections

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have captured strategic positions in North Kordofan state, retaking control of Bara, Jabra al-Sheikh, and Umm Sayala. These gains secured the national Exports Road, a vital transport link between Khartoum and el-Obeid, which disrupts the supply lines of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Concurrent with these military advances, the RSF is experiencing a wave of defections, with hundreds of commanders and fighters joining the national army. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has responded to these developments by initiating a political track, offering security guarantees and temporary immunity for those participating in a national dialogue managed by an independent mechanism.

Despite the political outreach, al-Burhan maintains that military operations will continue until the rebellion is ended. He has explicitly rejected any peace agreement that would allow RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo to ascend to power. Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, added that the RSF must withdraw from residential areas and cities before any formal negotiations can begin.
