Lufthansa Launches Nonstop Flights from Columbus and Phoenix to Germany
Lufthansa is launching first-ever nonstop flights from Columbus, Ohio, to Frankfurt and Phoenix, Arizona, to Munich starting in 2027.
Lufthansa is expanding its United States network with two new nonstop intercontinental routes to Germany. Starting May 5, 2027, the airline will operate flights between John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, and Frankfurt Airport three times weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This service marks Ohio's first nonstop flight to Europe and will utilize a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 287 seats.
The Columbus route is supported by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, JobsOhio, and One Columbus. To mitigate risk, JobsOhio provided revenue guarantees through its Air Service Restoration program. The connection aims to support the 38 German-based companies in the Columbus region and strengthen ties with Germany, which is Ohio's third-largest source of international investment.
Additionally, Lufthansa will begin nonstop service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Franz Josef Strauss International Airport in Munich on August 3, 2027. These year-round flights will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using an Airbus A350 with 293 seats. Local officials estimate the Phoenix service will generate an annual economic impact of $81.2 million for the community.
