SpaceX to Launch AI Orbital Data Centers by 2027

Elon Musk announced that SpaceX will launch its first AI satellites in the fourth quarter of 2027. These satellites will function as orbital data centers, with the network expected to reach significant scale by 2028. The infrastructure is designed to be lighter, simpler, and more cost-effective than traditional land-based data centers.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. has filed for approval from the Federal Communications Commission to deploy a network of up to 1 million satellites dedicated to complex AI computing. The company will exclusively use technology from Nvidia Corp. to power this network, specifically utilizing Nvidia Vera central processing units. This hardware will accelerate computing for Grok and future AI agents.
