Bangladesh Gross Forex Reserves Surpass 37 Billion Dollars
Bangladesh Bank reports gross foreign exchange reserves rose to 37.066 billion dollars, the highest level since September 2022.
The Bangladesh Bank reported that the country's gross foreign exchange reserves rose to 37,066.94 million U.S. dollars as of Wednesday, August 12, 2026. This recovery marks the first time reserves have surpassed the 37 billion dollar threshold since September 2022, a period when Bangladesh struggled with a foreign exchange crunch, dollar market strains, and rising import costs.
While gross reserves reached this milestone, reserves calculated using the International Monetary Fund method—which tracks immediately usable funds—stood at 32.26 billion dollars. A central bank official stated that these IMF-calculated reserves are sufficient to cover more than six months of import bills, which supports ongoing efforts to maintain stability in the foreign exchange market.
Despite the recent rebound, the current figures remain below the historical peak of 48 billion dollars recorded in August 2021.
