Larry Fink Proposes New Financing to Fuel AI Investment
BlackRock CEO Larry Fink warns of capital scarcity and proposes new financing models to support a massive U.S. investment cycle driven by artificial intelligence.
Larry Fink, Chairman and CEO of BlackRock, argues that the United States is entering one of the greatest investment cycles in its history, driven primarily by the expansion of artificial intelligence. However, he warns that the country faces a critical scarcity of capital as governments and technology hyperscalers borrow heavily to fund AI infrastructure, power, and housing.
Fink notes that this surge in borrowing is increasing costs for the broader economy, complicating the management of a record 40 trillion dollar federal debt. To sustain growth, he proposes scaling AI infrastructure financing through securitization to attract diverse capital pools and accelerating the build-out of power generation and skilled labor via faster permitting.
Additionally, Fink advocates for expanding the number of American long-term investors to ensure the economic benefits of this cycle are broadly shared. He points to China as an example of how aggressive power generation expansion can support national technology leadership.
