US Treasury Launches Global Campaign to Isolate Iran

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent launched a global campaign to economically isolate Iran, describing the initiative as an economic D-Day for Tehran. Bessent dispatched envoys, including Assistant Secretary Jonathan Burke, to more than 50 countries to demand coordinated action against the Iranian regime.

The campaign has already secured several restrictions. The United Arab Emirates stopped all flights by Iranian airlines, and the UAE central bank blocked transactions for Bank Melli over alleged violations involving terrorism, money laundering, and arms proliferation. Turkey revoked the license of Bank Mellat and halted flights from Mahan Air, a move mirrored by the government of Oman.

Bessent stated that all Iranian airlines will eventually be shut down globally. However, some smaller carriers continue to operate international routes to China, which has refused to yield to US pressure.
