USDA Reports Mixed Corn and Soybean Harvest Progress
The USDA reports that soybean harvests are nearing completion in the Midwest, though corn progress varies significantly across Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana.
The United States Department of Agriculture reported varying crop progress across the Midwest for the week ending November 1, 2026. National harvest rates stand at 74% for corn and 88% for soybeans.
In Iowa, soybean harvests are 90% complete, matching the five-year average, but corn harvests lag significantly at 66% to 67%, trailing the average by 12% to 13%. Minnesota shows similar trends, with soybeans 97% complete and corn at 82%, slightly behind the 85% average. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig stated that "weather conditions allowed Iowa farmers to make strong harvest progress last week" and noted that upcoming rain will benefit newly seeded cover crops.
Indiana reports stronger progress, with both corn and soybean harvests exceeding five-year averages at 75% and 87%, respectively. Winter wheat planting in Indiana reached 78%, though emergence lagged at 42% compared to the 50% average. Soil moisture in Indiana remains mixed, with nearly half of the topsoil rated as short or very short.
