Ukraine Scales Drone Missions to Combat Russian Forces

Ukraine reported a record surge in ground and aerial drone operations, focusing on robotic logistics and long-range strikes against Russian military infrastructure.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported a significant escalation in drone operations during the first half of 2026. Ground-based uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) missions rose by 122% between January and June, increasing from 7,511 to 16,676 monthly missions. This surge, totaling over 66,300 missions in six months, aims to replace human personnel in high-risk kill zones extending 50 km deep into Ukrainian-held territory. The government has contracted more than 22,000 new delivery drones to transition up to 100% of frontline logistics to robotic solutions for transporting food, water, and ammunition.

Simultaneously, Ukraine launched a record aerial campaign in June 2026, striking over 200,000 Russian targets. These operations, utilizing AI-driven targeting and Fiber Optic Guidance (FOG) to bypass jamming, caused nearly 30,000 Russian casualties. Long-range strikes targeted economic and military infrastructure deep within Russia, including a massive attack involving nearly 100 drones against the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Oblast. These campaigns have disrupted Russian fuel supplies and forced civilian evacuations from the Crimean Peninsula, contributing to increased desertions and pressure on the Russian High Command.
