African Democratic Congress Proposes Crude Oil Production Subsidies
The African Democratic Congress proposes subsidizing crude oil production to lower domestic fuel prices and alleviate poverty for low-income Nigerians.
The African Democratic Congress is calling for the implementation of production subsidies to reduce economic hardship and poverty for low-income Nigerians. During a Monday interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi argued that the country's poorest citizens cannot be left without subsidy support.
Rather than focusing on consumer-end support, the party proposes subsidizing the production of crude oil to deliver cheaper fuel domestically, leveraging Nigeria's status as an oil-producing nation. Abdullahi compared the urgency of protecting the public to a nation at war and cited an upcoming NNPC audit report as evidence to support the proposal.
The party linked this strategy to a pledge by Atiku to defend the people "by all means necessary."
