Yemeni Government Forces Clash With Houthi Rebels in Lahj
Yemeni government forces and Houthi rebels engaged in heavy fighting in Lahj province, displacing over 180,000 people across the country.
The Government of Yemen and Houthi rebels are engaged in heavy fighting in southwestern Yemen, specifically within the province of Lahj on the Gulf of Aden. Government military sources report that over 350 operations were conducted against the militia within a 24-hour period, resulting in the deaths of approximately 50 Houthi fighters and 20 government soldiers.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree alleged that Saudi fighter jets bombed more than 30 targets across the provinces of Taiz, Saada, and Hudaydah during the same timeframe. While Saudi Arabia has not commented on these claims, the Saudi civil defence agency issued a warning for the Najran province following suspected Houthi attacks.
The World Health Organization reports that more than 180,000 people have been displaced across Yemen since the latest escalation began. Fighting continues in the highlands overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and along the Red Sea coast.
