Subramanian Outlines Path to 55 Trillion Dollar Economy by 2047
Krishnamurthy V Subramanian detailed a strategic blueprint for India to reach a 55 trillion dollar economy by 2047 through structural policy and high-value manufacturing.
Former Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy V Subramanian stated that India can achieve a 55 trillion dollar economy by 2047 by maintaining 8 percent real GDP growth and implementing strategic capital deployment. Speaking at the India 2047 Leaders TALK, he outlined a vision for a Viksit Bharat centered on ethical wealth creation, bold structural policy, and the power of compounding growth.
Subramanian emphasized that reaching this target requires attracting high-quality foreign direct investment and expanding electronics and industrial manufacturing within global value chains. He identified the need to leverage a young, AI-proficient workforce and establish dominance in sunrise sectors, specifically space technology, defence manufacturing, and dual-use technology transfer, to ensure technological autonomy and export growth.
This economic projection follows an April 2026 International Monetary Fund report that ranked India as the world's sixth-largest economy with a nominal GDP of 3.92 trillion dollars for 2025-26. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India projects current growth at 6.7 percent.
