Massachusetts Lawmakers Urge FAA to Review Amazon Drone Hub

Democratic lawmakers from Massachusetts requested a new environmental review for a planned Amazon Prime Air drone delivery hub in Westborough.

Democratic lawmakers from Massachusetts are urging the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct a site-specific environmental review for a planned Amazon.com Prime Air drone delivery hub in Westborough. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, alongside Representatives Lori Trahan and Jim McGovern, cited community concerns regarding safety, health, privacy, and noise pollution.

This request coincides with a larger legal battle involving 15 states and Harris County, Texas, which sued the FAA. The lawsuit alleges the agency violated the law by issuing a broad environmental review in July that permits drone operators to launch fleets without individual site analyses.

The FAA maintains that removing the requirement for individual waivers will accelerate the adoption of drone technology in the medical and farming sectors. The agency stated it would respond directly to the Massachusetts lawmakers, while Amazon has not yet commented on the request.
