Amul Raises Ghee and Butter Prices Amid Festive Demand

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation increased prices for Amul ghee and butter across India due to rising production costs and high festive demand.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand, increased the retail prices of ghee and butter across India effective early November 2026. A 1-kg carton of Amul ghee rose by Rs 50 to Rs 680, while a 500-gm butter pack increased by Rs 15 to Rs 325. Other revisions included a Rs 20 increase for 500-gm ghee pouches and a Rs 3 increase for 100-gm butter packs.

GCMMF attributed the price hikes to rising input costs for milk production. The move offsets consumer relief provided by a September 2025 GST reduction that had lowered dairy taxes from 12% to 5%.

The price increases coincide with the Diwali festive season and reported supply shortages of cow ghee in cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Pune, and Kolkata. Demand for branded products has surged following government enforcement actions in Gujarat and Rajasthan, where authorities seized approximately 2 lakh kg of suspected adulterated or counterfeit ghee over the last six months.
