Alaska Lieutenant Governor Removes Treg Taylor From Gubernatorial Ballot

Alaska Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom declined to certify former Attorney General Treg Taylor's nomination for the November gubernatorial election, effectively removing him from the ballot. The decision followed a recommendation from the Alaska Public Offices Commission, which determined that Taylor violated financial disclosure laws by omitting the full names of tenants in an apartment building he owns.

Taylor criticized the disqualification as selective enforcement and argued that Dahlstrom should have recused herself from the decision because she is also a candidate in the race. In response, Dahlstrom stated that her responsibility was to follow the law and apply it consistently, noting that the law is not unclear regarding the certification of candidates who fail to comply with disclosure requirements.

Following Taylor's removal, his running mate Candi English will advance to the ranked choice general election and has selected Jodi Taylor as her new running mate. The gubernatorial field has seen further shifts, including the withdrawal of Democratic former state Senator Tom Begich to consolidate support for Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. Republican candidates Dave Bronson and Bernadette Wilson remain in the race. In a separate development, Democrat David Leslie withdrew from the U.S. Senate race, likely clearing the path for Republican Gerald Heikes to join the general election ballot.
