AMD and Microsoft Release AI-Powered FSR 4.1 for Xbox
AMD and Microsoft released FSR 4.1 upscaling technology to developers to improve frame rates and image clarity on Xbox consoles and handhelds.
AMD and Microsoft released FSR 4.1, an AI-powered upscaling technology, to developers for implementation on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X handhelds. Integrated via the latest Microsoft Game Development Kit, the technology allows games to render at lower internal resolutions and reconstruct them to higher outputs to increase frame rates and image clarity.
AMD developed the update as a software-driven mid-generation upgrade that utilizes INT8 models to optimize the balance between resolution and processing time on RDNA 2-based GPUs. Early testing on handheld hardware demonstrated performance gains in titles including Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 Remaster.
The rollout began with beta drivers for handhelds on October 23, 2026, before shifting focus to developer implementation for consoles. The collaboration aims to unify the Xbox ecosystem across different hardware form factors by leveraging machine learning capabilities.
