Israel and WFP Provide Emergency Aid to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela

The World Food Programme and the Israel Defense Forces have launched large-scale humanitarian and engineering operations in Venezuela following earthquakes on June 24 that killed at least 5,300 people. The WFP has delivered hot meals, rations, and electronic vouchers to over 100,000 people, with a goal to reach 500,000 people within three months.

Parallel to food aid, a delegation of 35 experts from the Israel Defense Forces has implemented a mapping system to categorize damaged buildings for salvage or demolition. These experts have certified structures as safe, allowing tens of thousands of residents to return to their homes, and have trained Venezuelan specialists in disaster-oriented artificial intelligence.

These operations are conducted in coordination with the Government of Venezuela, marking a significant return of bilateral cooperation after the two nations severed relations in 2009. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez formally thanked the Israeli delegation for their contributions to the rebuilding process.
