China Warns UK Against Imposing Electric Vehicle Tariffs
The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China warned the United Kingdom against adopting EU-style restrictive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China warned the United Kingdom on October 19 to avoid imposing restrictive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The warning follows reports that UK Trade Minister Anas Sarwar stated Britain and the European Union must act in lockstep to address China's dominance in the automotive sector.
China urged the UK to abide by World Trade Organization rules and cautioned against following the lead of the European Union, which has already adopted restrictive measures. The ministry described automotive cooperation between the two nations as being based on complementary strengths and mutual benefit.
Chinese officials stated they will closely monitor the situation and will take resolute countermeasures to protect Chinese industries if the UK proceeds with restrictive measures.
