Wisconsin Revokes Alcohol Permits for Minocqua Brewing Co.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue revoked the alcohol permits for Minocqua Brewing Co.'s facilities in Minocqua and Madison, leading owner Kirk Bangstad to announce that the Madison taproom will likely close by the end of 2026. State officials allege the brewery violated laws by transporting beer from Illinois without the required permits or tax payments.

Minocqua Brewing Co. disputes these allegations, claiming the state is targeting the business for its political views. The brewery has gained notoriety for social media posts promising free beer on the day of President Donald Trump's death and half-price beer upon the death of Senator Mitch McConnell.

The permit revocation will not take effect until the completion of an appeals process, with a hearing scheduled for November 18. The brewery intends to continue fighting the state's decision while managing the anticipated closure of its Madison location.
