Namibia Exports Rise 25.9 Percent as China Becomes Top Market

Namibia saw a 25.9 percent increase in exports for May, with China emerging as its largest export market and uranium remaining the top commodity.

The Namibia Statistics Agency reported that Namibia's exports increased by 25.9 percent month-on-month in May, reaching 12.4 billion Namibian dollars, or approximately 764 million U.S. dollars. Growth was driven by uranium, base metal ores, nickel ores, petroleum oils, and chemical products. Uranium remained the leading export commodity, accounting for 22.3 percent of the total.

China became the country's largest export market during this period, representing 25.2 percent of total exports. Namibia exported goods to 101 markets and imported from 163 markets globally throughout the month.

Imports rose by 9.3 percent to 15.5 billion Namibian dollars, with South Africa serving as the primary source of imports at 31.1 percent of the total import bill. These figures resulted in a trade deficit of 3.1 billion Namibian dollars for the month of May.
