Shopify Bans All Vape Product Sales Globally
Shopify ordered merchants to remove all electronic nicotine delivery systems from their stores globally following pressure from U.S. law enforcement authorities.
Shopify Inc. ordered merchants using its e-commerce platform to remove all electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) from their online stores globally. The company issued a notice on June 24 requiring merchants to scrub their inventories by July 8 to prevent product suspension or permanent store termination.
The policy prohibits all vape products regardless of their legal status. This action follows pressure from a coalition of U.S. state and city law enforcement authorities, including the City of New York and officials from Illinois, Arizona, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta led the coalition's effort to curb the widespread sale of illegal and unauthorized vaporizers. Shopify stated the decision stems from shifting legal restrictions and the company's position against illegal commerce.
