Bamburi Cement Seeks Supply Deal for Dangote Refinery

Bamburi Cement is pursuing a deal to supply one million tonnes of materials for the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu, Kenya.

Bamburi Cement Plc is pursuing a commercial agreement to supply over one million tonnes of cement and concrete products for the construction of the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu, Kenya. The refinery is designed to process 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day and is described as the world's largest single-train crude oil refinery.

CEO Geoffrey Ndugwa stated the company is prepared to deliver materials from its Mombasa plant, specifically offering the Ultra-series concrete range and Bamburi DuraCem, a cement resistant to sulfate and chloride for marine projects. The company expects to benefit from a Government of Kenya requirement that the project utilize locally manufactured products.

To support this growth and increase overall capacity, Bamburi has entered a $250 million contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction to build a clinkerisation plant in Matuga, Kwale County. This expansion will increase the company's annual cement production capacity to four million tonnes.
