Election Experts Affirm Security During 2026 Midterm Voting
Election security expert David Becker expressed confidence in the 2026 midterm integrity as nearly 60 million Americans cast their ballots.
Election security expert David Becker expressed confidence in the integrity of the 2026 midterm elections as Americans cast their ballots on Tuesday. Becker noted that nearly 60 million people had already voted without significant issues, though he warned that the primary risk to the process lies in the aftermath of the vote.
Becker anticipated that losing candidates and parties might falsely claim the results were rigged, stating, "I think we expect to hear statements from losing candidates and losing parties that the election was rigged when we know, of course, that our elections are secure and verified."
While immigrant advocacy and voting rights groups prepared for the possible presence of federal agents at polling sites, the Trump administration stated it has no plans to deploy such personnel. Becker highlighted federal law 18 U.S.C. 592, which restricts armed personnel near polling places, as a legal safeguard that would trigger court intervention if violated. In Arizona, community members received training to monitor polling site irregularities to ensure a smooth process.
