Apple Develops Privacy-Focused Smart Home Security Camera

Apple Inc. is developing a smart home security camera designed to prioritize user privacy by avoiding the recording or streaming of video footage. The device, which reportedly resembles a metal cylinder, will function as an AI-powered sensor that analyzes the home environment and processes data on-device.
Instead of video, the camera will provide users with facial recognition alerts and text-based descriptions of events, such as when a person enters a room. This approach to privacy is similar to technology the company is reportedly developing for a future version of AirPods.
The camera is part of a larger smart home ecosystem that includes a rumored smart home hub and the J490 smart home display. Mark Gurman reported that the device's focus on text descriptions ensures users are not receiving actual video feeds.
