The Sui Foundation is investing $30 million to integrate the DATA Network and Trace registry into the Sui stack to scale rights-cleared AI training data.
The Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in the DATA Network, becoming its largest institutional stakeholder to scale the supply chain for rights-cleared AI training data. As part of this integration, the DATA Network and its Trace registry will migrate to the Sui stack, upgrading to a native protocol on Sui and retiring its independent chain.
Walrus, a data platform anchored on Sui, will act as the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications, providing encrypted and immutable storage for AI datasets. This transition aims to solve industry challenges regarding data provenance and consent, particularly as companies face litigation over training data and the requirements of the EU AI Act.
Executives from both organizations highlighted the shift toward verifiable data. The integration allows the DATA Foundation to expand its capabilities beyond audit trails, while Mysten Labs noted the move brings massive volumes of high-quality data to the Sui ecosystem.
