New Reports Detail AI Infrastructure and Adoption Gaps in Asia

Reports released on April 15, 2026, reveal significant barriers to scaling artificial intelligence across Asia. ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), in partnership with Ecosystm, published a study titled "Mind the Gap: Bridging the AI Infrastructure Readiness Divide," which surveyed over 600 leaders across nine markets. The findings show that while 90% of organizations have begun AI journeys, 71% are stuck in the "Builder" stage, unable to move pilots into production due to insufficient high-density infrastructure and specialized expertise. Singapore emerged as the region's most mature market, though only 3% of its organizations have reached "Leader" status.

Parallelly, OpenAI released Capability Gap findings identifying India as one of the world's top five markets for advanced AI in coding and complex reasoning. The report notes a surge in the builder ecosystem, with Codex app usage increasing four-fold within two weeks of its February 2026 launch. However, OpenAI found that adoption is heavily concentrated in urban hubs, with the top 10 cities representing less than 10% of the population but accounting for approximately 50% of all AI users. While Delhi NCR shows the highest ChatGPT penetration, emerging engagement is appearing in education and health sectors in states such as Assam, Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, and Kerala.
