Aldi UK Cuts Strawberry Prices to Support Bumper Crop
Aldi UK reduced the price of British strawberries to help growers manage a surplus caused by prolonged summer sunshine.
Aldi UK launched a limited-time promotional deal on British strawberries from August 21 to August 26 to assist growers managing a sudden crop surplus. Customers can purchase two 227g packs for £2, a reduction that saves shoppers 98p compared to standard pricing.
The price cut responds to a bumper crop caused by sustained summer sunshine, which resulted in a large volume of fruit ripening simultaneously. The initiative aims to increase sales volume and prevent excess fruit from being diverted into alternative channels, alleviating pressure on growers facing a heatwave-induced glut.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, stated that the promotion helps growers sell more fruit while providing customers with better value. The retailer confirmed that suppliers will continue to receive their full contracted price despite the retail discount.
