India Approves 5,000 Crore for Assam Flood Housing

The Government of India approved approximately 5,000 crore rupees to construct 3.8 lakh new homes for flood-affected families in Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. The decision followed a meeting in New Delhi between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, the government extended the PMAY-G survey period by 15 days and pledged additional housing for eligible tea garden workers and flood-hit regions. Alongside the housing initiative, the central government approved 832.70 crore rupees for flood-affected farmers through the Agriculture Unnati Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, which includes a specific 139 crore rupee sanction to promote sustainable farming and agricultural investment.

Further financial allocations include 33.36 crore rupees for agricultural mechanisation and 96.87 crore rupees for horticulture. In addition to these relief measures, the state is expanding early childhood infrastructure by developing child-friendly Anganwadi Centres, with 4,560 centres completed and 4,494 more currently under construction.
