Arvind Kejriwal Launches Campaign Opposing Forced E20 Petrol Rollout

Arvind Kejriwal launched an online signature campaign demanding that the Indian government offer consumers a choice between different petrol blends at fuel stations.

Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal launched a nationwide online signature campaign via StopE20petrol.com on Tuesday to oppose the implementation of E20 petrol. The campaign petitions the Prime Minister to allow motorists to choose between conventional petrol, E10, and E20 blends at fuel stations instead of being limited to a single fuel option.

Kejriwal argues that the forced rollout of 20% ethanol-blended petrol reduces fuel mileage and harms engine performance, leading to higher maintenance costs. He specifically noted that these issues disproportionately affect middle- and lower-income families. The Aam Aadmi Party is demanding that the central government either halt the implementation or reduce the retail price of E20 petrol to reflect its lower energy density.

The Government of India and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas maintain that E20-compatible vehicles are designed for the blend. Officials promote the program as a means to reduce carbon emissions, support farmers, and decrease the nation's dependence on crude oil imports.
