Tesla Prepares Cybercab Robotaxi Launch in Austin

Tesla is preparing to launch the Cybercab, a two-seat robotaxi designed without a steering wheel or brake pedal, for public road use in Austin, Texas. The company has already begun production at Gigafactory Texas, where annual capacity exceeds 125,000 units, and has completed emergency training with local first responders.

Rollout timelines vary across reports, with some indicating a potential launch for employees by the end of August and others pointing to a formal event in September. To build momentum, a promotional campaign is encouraging Robotaxi rides through August 23 to win attendance at the upcoming event.

CEO Elon Musk stated that the company needs to accumulate driving data specific to the Cybercab before widespread deployment. This launch represents a broader strategic shift toward autonomous driving and robotics, with Tesla expecting to spend over $25 billion this year to support the transition.
