IAEA Warns Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Faces Diesel Shortage

The International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine has only a 10-day supply of diesel fuel remaining. The facility has been without off-site power for over a week following military activity on the northern side of the Dnipro River, forcing the plant to rely on emergency diesel generators to cool its six shut-down reactors.

The agency is currently attempting to negotiate a local ceasefire to allow for repairs to the electrical lines. The plant, the largest in Europe, was seized by the Russian army in March 2022. In addition to the power crisis, the agency reported three drone incidents at the site within a single week, which resulted in injuries to two employees.
