Four MLAs Removed From Jammu and Kashmir Assembly After Violence

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Srinagar descended into chaos on Monday after a resolution to restore statehood, moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, sparked a violent uproar. The disruption began when members of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged mock proceedings in the House well, leading to a shouting match between the BJP, the National Conference, and the Indian National Congress.
Physical altercations broke out when BJP members allegedly attacked Congress MLAs with a microphone stand. During the turmoil, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma accused the Chief Minister of being a cheat, while Congress MLA Irfan Hafeez Lone displayed a banner demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Abdul Rahim Rather, the Speaker of the Assembly, ordered the removal of BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Arvind Gupta, as well as Congress MLAs Irfan Hafeez Lone and Iftikhar Ahmad. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary condemned the use of unparliamentary language during the session, stating, "This is not a street."
