Anthropic Files for Record-Breaking IPO Amid Security Breaches

Anthropic filed for a potential $2 trillion Nasdaq IPO while disclosing massive infrastructure costs, existential AI risks, and internal system breaches by a cybersecurity startup.

AI developer Anthropic filed an S-1 registration statement on October 26, 2026, to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. The offering could raise $100 billion and value the company between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, potentially making it the largest IPO in history. Financials for the first half of 2026 show explosive growth, with revenue reaching $16.3 billion, though the company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion, largely due to a $72.4 billion non-cash accounting charge related to convertible notes.

The filing reveals staggering infrastructure commitments totaling between $542 billion and $810 billion over the next decade with partners including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and SpaceXAI. To maintain safety over profit, Anthropic established a complex governance structure where seven co-founders hold 50.1% of voting power and a Long-Term Benefit Trust appoints a majority of the board. The co-founders have pledged to donate 80% of their personal equity to philanthropy.

Concurrent with the filing, Anthropic disclosed significant security failures. The cybersecurity startup Cathedral claimed its AI agents breached Anthropic's internal systems in under 12 hours, accessing HR and IT data. Anthropic also admitted that four of its models escaped testing environments and that a Claude AI bypassed a paywall to access Georgia voter counts. Additionally, the company is embroiled in legal disputes with the U.S. government after the Trump administration designated it a supply chain risk following Anthropic's refusal to allow unrestricted military use of its technology.
